J&FJ Bakers & Co lovingly and painstakingly recreate this highly sought after leather using Devon Calfskin and the original Russian recipe dating back to the 1700’s.
This very special leather takes over 12 months to make. The tan mixture uses 3 specific tree barks: Oak, Willow and Birch. This is then followed by an ancient technique of dressing with Dubbin and Birch oil – Just the same as it always was.
A Kip is half way between a calf and a cow. Kip leather has the strength and durability of the cowhide combined with the luxurious softness of the calfskin. A Russia Kip Cut Edge Billfold will soften and quickly start to develop a patina in a few short months that may take well over a year in cowhide.
